Donation by BirdLife Netherlands

BirdLife Netherlands and the National Postcode Lotery donate € 3.000,- for the project 'Bird survey in Southeast Europe'. The money comes from the Kingfisher Fund (IJsvogelfonds). This fund was established in 2011 by BirdLife Netherlands, with financial support of the National Postcode Lotery, to help small bird working groups and passionate nature lovers with initiatives to protect birds.

The project 'Bird survey in Southeast Europe' is invented and carried out by volunteers. The aim is to test a new and simple method to monitor changes in bird populations. Because of its simplicity the method can be used by any bird watcher visiting a region with interesting birds, like a Natura 2000 site. This way also birds in areas where only a few local bird watchers are active, but where many bird watchers from abroad come to watch birds, can be monitored. The Eastern Rhodopes in Bulgaria is such a place.
